Ulysses S. Grant
I don't underrate the value of military knowledge, but if men make war in slavish obedience to rules, they will fail.
-Ulysses S. Grant
Ulysses S. Grant was a very good war general who was on the Union side. He won many different battles, including Fort Henry, Fort Donnelson, Vicksburg, Mississippi, and Challanooga. His rival was Robert E. Lee, the confederate general. Grant directed part of the Union Army South while his half of the army marched to Richmond to defeat Lee. On April 9, 1865 Grant forced Lee to surrender at Appomattox Court House and won the Civil war for the Union.
