Robert E. Lee
It is easier to make our wishes conform to our means than to make our means conform to our wishes.
-Robert E. Lee
Robert E. Lee was a well respected confederate general who made one crucial mistake that cost him a huge victory. Lee's home state was Virginia and he opposed secession for VA, but he was still on the confederate side. Lee won a large number of battles in the South, including the Seven Days' Battles, the Second Battle of Bull Run, the Battle of Fredricksburg, and the Battle of Chancellors Village. After he won a large number of battles in the South, Lee decided to take the war to the North and make the Union go on the defensive side, which was a huge mistake. The turning point for his army was when he lost the Battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. He and his army surrendered to the Union side at the Appomattux Court House in Richmond.
