Gettysburg
We failed, but in the good providence of God apparent failure often proves a blessing.
-Robert E. Lee
The Battle of Gettysburg was the last major battle in the Civil War. Robert E. Lee wanted to get in between the union army and their capitol, Washington D.C., so he could isolate them. As they marched North, their paths crossed at Gettysburg. On the first day of the battle, the Confederates didn't know how many troops the Union had, so they were very cautious. On the second day, more Union troops arrived and the Confederates were unable to break army lines. On the third day, Lee sent his entire army charging straight at the Union army, killing a great number of Confederates so that they couldn't continue on in the war.
Robert E. Lee was the leader of the Confederate army. He made a big mistake by choosing to go into the North, which caused the confederates to loose the whole war.
