Sherman's March to the Sea
War is the remedy that our enemies have chosen, and I say let us give them all they want.
― William T. Sherman
While Grant was trying to capture the Union capitol in the North, he sent Sherman to the south to "clear" away the crops and destroy towns and railroads. Sherman chased around the Confederates trying to lure them into a fight. While he was in the process of chasing them, Sherman destroyed everything in his path that held any value. His troops took Atlanta in 1864 and burnt down half of the city. They continued along the Atlantic coast, still wiping out everything that they passed, and then went into North and South Carolina. This caused a great amount of damage to the Southern economy.
William Tecumseh Sherman was the leader of the Union troops who went all through the South and destroyed many of their crops and other things that had value.
