Jefferson F. Davis
A people morally and intellectually equal to self-government must also be equal in self-defense.
-Jefferson Davis
Jefferson Davis was a Western war hero who was the president of the Confederate states, but he wanted to be the general in the Confederate Army. He didn't want to be president at first and he was chosen because he was moderate in his stance on leaving the union and because he was easily influenced. Davis was against making new laws for their new "country", even though most people in the confederate states did want their own new laws. Later on, he was elected to lead the confederate army, but when he lead it, he ran the army in a poor way and did not treat his soldiers right. Eventually, he admitted defeat by running away, but was caught and arrested in 1866 and let go in 1868.
